[Silence]
And welcome to the five hundred forty first episode of Cinema Psyops.
I'm your host, Cort, the guy that cannot wait to do the notes for Vanishing Point this week. And joining me in the color commentary seed is my co-host, Matt.
Yeah, we're gonna have to do this so quick it's gonna be a vanishing point. Bam I did it.
We don't have to go absolutely that quick. Um I basically I have like a family dinner thing that I'm supposed to go do.
And I have an out to arrive late because this was sprung on me at the last minute. And the wife knows that sometimes uh I have to wait on your ADHD ridden ass to get done, and I'm not in control of you because nothing is in control of you including
Including you. And so she just basically accepted the fact that I'm gonna probably run a little late to that family dinner. She even said, Well, should I order you something? I was like, No, let me text you and then you can order me when I'm on my way.
Yeah.
So yeah, we have to be fast, but we don't have to be like that insanely fast.
Listen, listen. Ain't nothing could kill me but me, I'm sure, at this point.
All right. So the intro is gonna have to be uh your side of it will have to be from the backup recording, which is why we do the backup recording. That's right.
That's right.
Now what were we saying? Did I how far did I get into talking about this?
Uh we haven't talked yet about the movie. Uh we we' we we're just at the point now where y we we gotta go a little quick, uh, because you have family dinner and no one can control my ADHD adult brain, not even myself.
Oh, good memory. And hopefully you didn't take that so personally.
No, I didn't'cause it's true. You can't take things personally that are true. You just can't.
Yeah.
Well that's the thing is I've found to I found out how to work around it is basically how it works. So
Yeah.
And you found a way to work around my stoned ass by remembering where we were for me.
Mm-hmm.
Well you're welcome. How are you gonna get to dinner?
No, I'll be fine. I just was really super panicked there for a second about uh this not recording. I forgot to double check it. So I'm just glad I didn't.
Pissing and moaning and wailing, we gotta get talking about Vanishing Point and we gotta do it in a timely manner. So let's go ahead and get started with that. We're gonna actually take the break here. We'll have the Legion Patreon ad because I'm gonna keep playing it because Bo's back. So I'm happy about that. Then we'll have the music that was created for

Hopefully the song actually kinda matches the with the lyrics telling the story of Vanishing Point and well rhyme and not suck.
I'm sure everything will be just fine.
It will be adequate, I hope.
It'll be good. People aren't here for the music, they're here for us, Cort.
to listen to our sweet, sexy voices.
Boy I really, really, truly hope you are right'cause
Yeah. I'm not, but let's just go on like I am anyway.
All right, so let's talk about Vanishing Point with said voices. Here we go. The film opens on a desolate land that appears to be a ghost town where there are signs of business businesses and
and some homes, but none of them look open or even inviting. As we look around the town with a camera, after our title pops up on screen
And the opening credits are overlaid on top of that. We see a motorcycle pig come squealing by and it cuts to two bulldozers going up the road in tandem with a pig car squealing its way in between them, and we see folks watching this setup take.
place. We watch the bulldozers get moved into position in a painstakingly slow sequence.
That makes it obvious the police are setting up one hell of a fuck around and find out roadblock.
Yeah.
And then someone talks, so dialogue that's our first clip.
That's a podcast, man.

Here comes CBS News must be important.
[Music]
Seventy three a helicopter.
Copter over.
Have you located suspect?
With that wafer thin dialogue, we see the main character in his car being menaced by a pig copter trying to fuck with him, and the stunt work is only surpassed by the camera work for these shots. Holy fuck.
Yeah. Jesus.
He opens the throttle wide to try to get around the pigcopter and they cut to the quiet abandoned town where that setup was as the car whips around and speeds away from the roadblock
To encounter cops going three wide on the road, so he takes it off road and goes driving across the desert in old truck paths and gets stuck in our second.
Stop.
You can't get one.
All right. Yeah. All right, maintain surveillance.
The main character gets out of the car and looks around before pondering something and jumping right back in it to speed off again on another dirt road.
Road and vacuum.
And back on to a two-lane blacktop. It tells us it is Sunday at ten o two.
AM somewhere in California, when it then freeze frames there, then it cuts to a train with the title card that says two days earlier, Denver, Colorado, on a Friday at around eleven thirty PM.
Thank you for letting us know, s movie. Thank you, movie. I love it.
I love it. The exact timing of everything is very important apparently. Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
A car speeds into a parking lot of a car delivery service as the car pulls in. We get more dialogue and are three.
Kowalski!
And the keys for a sawed-off weekend.
Well you're both welcome.
What do you get going for Frisco? You're not going back tonight.
Hey, you're gonna kill yourself.
Thank you.
Do you know?
Yeah, yeah. Look, why why why didn't you stay over till Monday, huh? So you can go.
You can go home right now.
Now. Oh yeah, sure, sure. Just before midnight.
Hey look.
When the clock strikes twelve.
my car turns into a pumpkin.
Hey Sandy, you know you're a born actor?
Yeah, sure, sure. That's what my wife will say.
I'm going to tell her I've been working.
I've been waiting up for you all night.
Hey, look, look, look, seriously.
Why don't you stay over?
No. Look, you can do it some sleep, can't you? Look, I gotta get started out tonight, Sandy. Now which car? What?
감사합니다.
Amen.
Amen.
That's good, that's good.
Thank you.

Gotta get moving.
Gotta hit the road.
Jake's over at the show. Yeah, beautiful. But no offense, Jake. I gotta be on Freshman 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon.
You put me all right.
But you cannot make it. What a bet. Well, this must be a soup up something. Yeah, it's hopped up to over 160.
Thank you.
But even so. Tell what I'm gonna do with you. I'm gonna bet you the tab for the Bennies, and I'm gonna be in Frisco. I'm gonna call you at three o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Now if I don't, double the deal next time around. Bet?
After the clip we are treated to many shots of what I'm going to refer to as car porn.
Yeah, baby.
Lots of driving and danger before it cuts to the daytime where a blind man played by Clevon Little wanders through a town as racists stare at him before he makes his way in.
into the radio station, which means, well, more dialogue and our fourth clip.
Hey.
This is how you're going to be able to do that
and tight podcast. You got it.

After the clip, a pig tries to pull over Kowalski and he not only ignores him, he tries to run him off the goddamn road.
And thus begins a dance that causes the pig to finally dump the pork cycle, causing Kowalski's drug-addled brain to flash back to his own motorcycle racing days and our 12 fifth clip.
[Silence]
You can't get it!
Crashing into the top ten.
From the first really monstrous hit of the stem days.
Jump twenty-nine.
Transplay shit.

Thank you.
[Music]
The chase continues through a construction zone, and it seems Kowalski is a complete and total psychopath as he blows through it, the construction zone, I mean, and up and over an exit to not have to stop, all the while he has the remaining motorcycle pig on his tail.
This is completely insane and we are still in the first third of the movie. No, no.
No, no. Fuck it, I love it.
He narrowly misses being creamed as we watch him follow the river on the highway, gaining distance between him and the pig, all set to a groovy fucking soundtrack that is just fucking kicking.
We are just we're grooving.
We're rockin' and uh we're watching a man slowly lose his fucking m- Yeah.
He gets down into a dirt road and then a gravel field by the river, and I am instantly wondering how he's going to get any money for this car if he beats it to a pulp getting there because he is paid to deliver it unharmed. And he
I don't think-
Fuck harmsome shit.
I don't think he gives a flying fuck.
He sure as fuck harms this thing when he speeds up to jump a bridge that's out, which causes the cop to dump his bike in fear, and then he smacks the car around some more, going over the median grass and narrowly missing multiple cars doing it.
They got to the DJ, then to some pigs, and our sixth clip.
Hmm. We've been in a two-bike pileup on fifty-three.
104, how far out are you?
Far out are you?
Uh about five miles from Thompson. Can you give me a description on the car? Uh it's a 1970 White Challenger, Colorado license OA5599.
At 10-4, was anybody injured? No injuries.
A ten for Rachel.
Return to your station then. Okay.
Uh we're on our way in. We'd best send a truck to that other motorcycle.
Thank you.
Sue, pick up on this man.
Amen.
Attention, all highway patrol stations. Suspect vehicle.
Vehicle nineteen seventy.
70 Dodge Challenger White in color.
At the end of the clip, Kowalski comes up on a small town roadblock and checkpoint.
So he just goes off-road again and spins the car around back through some dirt road loop with pigs squealing their way at him.
This starts.
Cool.
This starts an open highway in median road split chase where Kowalski literally goes all over the place to cause the pigs chasing him to spin out.
And he then floors it out of there. The pace of this frenetic editing in pure insane high speed lunacy is evident and
in that we are in his speed induced perspective and the film will not let us out as we are now speeding, both in drugs and with driving, with Kowalski in both the vehicle and his mind.
Good shit, man. Listen, you if you want a car chase movie
movie.
It doesn't get so much better than having the person being like completely and utterly fucked on drugs.
This sequence quite literally feels like you are utterly fucked on speed. I kept smoking to try and bring me down, and I'm like, oh wait, I don't not on speed, I just
Yeah, just feel like I'm not the one with the problem. It's this guy.
Guy.
Let's go.
The frenetic driving has Kowalski flashback to his race car driving days and a horrific crash he had before cutting to the open road again.
And a guy in a spider.
challenging him to a race with a little paint trade involved before Kowowski puts him in the rear view and that causes more paint trading and racing until they come to a one-laid bridge and that sends the other car up Over a bank and barreling towards the river and
I am sure the guy is hamburger at this point, but Kowalski.
Kowalski gets
Gets out to check on the guy and he is unharmed.
So some are
Are you not dead, bitch?
Yeah. So he hops back in the car and s so Kowalski hops back in the car and speeds off with two more pigs barreling up towards him. We cannot even catch our breath from this fucking chase, nor can Kowalski.
How dare you want to catch your fucking breath, mother?
breath motherfucker.
Yeah.
This leads to more cars driving fast on a highway porn shots before they all encounter a crew painting the center line of the highway.
Kowalski makes it across the state line into Nevada as the cops pull off and stop, and the line painting crew.
pulls over as well, massively fucking up the center line paint job before we finally have some more dialogue so I can catch my breath with our seventh clip.
Card twenty four to headquarters.
Car twenty four to headquarters. Come in, Car twenty four.
Yeah, we lost it.
Yeah, we lost him at the Nevada border. You better let Nevada handle it. This guy's nuts. 10-4. We'll advise Nevada Highway Patrol.
Yeah, I got it all right. Initials OA 5599 Colorado plates. Now, what's this roadrunner done, fellas?
I got them on the air now.
Yeah, quite a mother.
Well, fellas, as you know, we can't throw anything at him except uh dangerous driving and failure to stop, misdemeanors, both of'em over here.
Yeah, but you told me that once, camerate.
But is this Bronco and the Jaguar filed a formal complaint?
No, he hasn't. Well, there you are. That isn't even a felony, brother. What are you guys gonna do about it? He hasn't got us bugged, Danny. He's the one that's gonna have to start worrying, as of right now. Good luck. Yeah, don't you worry. We'll catch him.
May I help you, sir?
May I help you? Yeah, fill her up, please.
Thank you.
Well you relax. I'm not gonna hurt you.
Play ball with me, not let
I mean I'll let you go, huh?
Alright, come on, tell me.
to get this stuff.
Huh? Which house?
[Silence]
There was another timestamp there somewhere in the clip of Nevada Saturday at eleven forty three AM before the flashback.
and that sound of what was sounding like assaults Was another flashback where Kowalski as a cop stops an older pig from raping some girl midway through his assault.
That was fucking gross. Mm-hmm. After the flashback, it cuts back to Kowalski peeling out, and then some more gorgeous wide shots.
Of the desert and then it cuts to dialogue f From Cleve On Little, and that's going to be our eighth clip.
Hmm, that's how you podcast.
Podcast.
And there goes the challenge of being chased by the blue blue meanies all.
The fish is strapped.
Traffic squaw.
The known driver, the last American hero, the electric centaur, the demigod, the superdriver of the Golden West, two nasty Mat cigars.
That's the cars are close behind.
behind the beautiful lone driver. The police numbers are getting closer, closer.
Closer, closer to our soul.
Soul hero in his soul They're gonna get him, smash him, rip!
The last beautiful frequent
For free soul on this.
Let it.
But It is written.
The evil spirit arms the tiger with Brahman provided wings.
La sopa !
Did you hear that? Yeah. Where the hell he'd get so much information.
Information.
Same place as you do, Charlie.
You mean from our own frequency?
That's right.
How long's he been at it?
Year and a half, maybe two.
Hell, that's against the law.
So's carrying the transistor on duty.
E come on now, that's different. But he never says anything to incriminate himself.
Brains and lawyers, Charlie.
As far as the law is concerned, he's clean as Kleenex.
Es ist TRUE.
True my friends.
[Silence]
Our soul
Challenger has just broken the ring of evil. The deep blue meanies have so righteously.
Числе!
Yeah, rot!
Get through them baby!
Get through all.
The end of the clip takes us well over the first third of the film. We finally get to pause for a moment and reflect on, holy shit, what all just fucking happened. This man is fucking insane. What the fuck is he thinking?
I'm tired.
Yeah, man, it is. It's fucking crazy out there.
Hmm.
Yeah, the shit that this guy pulls and he gets away with and somehow survives is summed up at some point in the film by Clevon Little, where he just basically says, You've just been lucky. You've had an unbelievable streak of luck, which is a hundred percent true. There's a multiple times where he should have been dead.
No, he's running uh he he's on a run that is seldom seen from people. Usually everyone just dies by this point.
I just want to point out too that he is not running to something and he is not running from the police with this. He is running from feeling anything other than the need for speed.
Yeah, he's just running. How about that? He's not running for Two
Against whatever. He's just running.
The other thing that the only thing he's yeah, the only thing that he's running on right now is that he is running from himself. He quite literally anytime he starts to have any kind of memory about any point in his life
Or anything kinda comes back to him in any way, shape, or form, he starts feeling things that he doesn't want to feel and then he fucking puts the throttle down as hard as he can to try and eliminate that with the adrenaline and he's burning out. He can't keep doing this.
Oh man, he's burning the candle at both ends, it it would seem
He chopped the candle in the middle and pulled the wick out and lit it there too.
Yeah.
Jesus.
This man was like mess.
Yeah, it takes me.
Ha ha ha.
Why don't we get started with the middle of the item?
Let's do it.
All right. So the middle act picks up with even more shots of open highway before cutting to a pig, doing a T one hundred. Those of you that heard uh Smoking the Banner know what that is.
And then that pig gets a call in our ninth clip.
Attention, calling car forty four. Attention car forty four, do you read me?
This is Car forty four, reading you loud and clear over. Where are you, Car Forty Four?
We're on eighty, some ten miles from Argenta, over?
Well good. Stay with it.
Watch for a white challenger, license plates, initial OA5599, Colorado plates.
Last scene heading for Dunfey on US-40 at cruising speed.
We have reason to believe that it's supercharged, so maintain double alert till you spot it.
And then call in for instructions.
Over and out.
Let's go. Come on, let's go.
What do you think he's done?
Hell no.
Well what do you think?
I think he's gonna hijack that car to Cuba.
Don't be ridiculous. Hell Chola, I don't know.
Maybe kill somebody. Maybe stole that big dude of his. Maybe both.
And thus begins another chase scene as two pigmobiles come blocking the highway to not let Kowalski through. So he spins around and heads towards the single car and then plays chicken on them, causing them to To spin out before the pigs shift drivers in on.
Let me take him! Let's go! Let's go!
I'm gonna get that son of a bitch, so I'm gonna get that son of a bitch.
Navana, this is Colorado State Highway Patrol. This is about a special query raised by the Utah Highway Patrol.
Affirmative, that's correct. But later they asked that the information be forwarded to you guys, so get ready for some details. Put it on your tape recorders and all that.
And all that sort of channel.
sort of chance, huh? Apparently the speed maniac you've been chasing all over your territory is a former professional road racer.
Road racer name.
Name Kawaii.
Kowalski. K-O-W-A-L-S-K-I. Repeat Kowalski.
First name unknown, other particulars also unknown. What we do know is that he's employed as a car delivery driver by an agency in Denver. He's presently driving uh Dodge.
Challenger, Colorado license plate, OA5599. This is not a stolen car. He's driving into San Francisco for delivery due Monday.
It's only Saturday.
Just hurry.
That's what we wanted to know ourselves.
Yeah. So your guess is as good as ours, ten four.
The end of the clip treats us to more antics of side road shuffles to swerve and kick up dust and rocks through small towns and spin-outs that you just need to fucking watch because me describing it is a waste of all of our time because it's
Yeah. You just have to watch it guys. It is Fucking rad.
He goes through like these really dirt road alleyways near churches and with kids just standing in the yard not far from where that alleyway is and just so is lucky he doesn't kill anybody. It's insane.
And again, running on pure unadulterated luck.
Yeah.
The important part of all this driving though is how Kowalski drifts the challenger just right so that when the pig attempts to do that too, that sort of slide into the turn, they overcorrect and end up flipping it off the edge of the
Road into the drain field of the road by flipping off the runoff slope. Basically, it's fucking fantastic.
It's great.
No notes on anything with that shot.
It's a fucking sweet ass move.
Yeah. Kowalski pauses to make sure they are actually okay. He always checks up on everybody he fucks up, you know? Yeah, he is.
Yeah, he is. He's always like, Hey man, you all right? All right, good.
Just wanna make I wanna fuck you up, but I want you dead.
Yeah, then he peels out and the pigs call it in for our eleventh clip.
You alright?
Forty four to headquarters.
Forty-fort headquarters.
Of course.
Субтитры сделал DimaTorzok
What?
That is for Tuna Paul. What the hell's going on out there, Collins? Scream the car, man. Where the hell are you now? You've gone crazy. Correction.
We're still after him. We haven't lost him. We're still after him. Now come on. Stay right where you are. We're coming to you right now.
Let's go, let's go!
Yeah, let's go.
Gotta admit that one guy sure has a lot of Jackie Gleason in him in that.
And then some bitch.
The pig hops in the back of another pork mobile and they continue the pursuit as they begin showing up in Kowalski's rear view mirror and he
He takes notice. They try the double car roadblock that fails as he just drives off into the desert. So they call it in once again for R twelve plus.
Car forty four to headquarters.
Come in forty four.
He's jumped the main road and headed out into the desert.
I let'em cook out there for a while.
He ain't going nowhere.
What's he trying to prove now?
Any time now, Super.
Yeah, you'd run a tape.
I already ran a tape twice.
Come old man, are you blind or something? Can't you see I'm thinking?
Bacon.
Crazy.
Kowalski.
Kowalski, can you hear me?
Do you hear me, Kowalski? Now I know you can hear me, Kowalski. I'm sure you hear me now, this very minute.
Now you listen very carefully.
The whole mobile force of the Nevada State Highway Patrol is after you. They waiting for you to come up for air.
Yeah. And some people imagine you'll try to get a California through Death Valley, and others bet you'll die there in the desert.
These few are just too happy to see you vanish for good out there.
But my tape deck is just as jammed with telegrams as my head is jammed with phone calls from people who are wishing you well in your getaway.
No matter where it might lead you.
I wish I could help you, but I can't.
I came.
I don't think anybody can except for that crazy lucky streak of yours.
And now you're gonna need more luck
Продолжение следует...
All of it perhaps and badly.
Beat the police.
You can beat the road and you can even beat the clock, but you can't beat the desert.
Nobody can.
Go to hell.
No.
Bye.
[Silence]
After that Kowalski cuts back through the desert and puts on some shades From the glove box before a flashback to some sexy time kicks in and then we see them As in Kowalski and this lady having the sexy time, in a van by the beach where the chick offered.
Down by the river.
Where the chick offers some pot to Kowalski and that leads to some dialogue and our team.
Wouldn't it be funny after all if you...
Did have to arrest me.
Turn you on.
And you trying to turn me in.
Me.
[Music]
I love this.
[Music]
I love your scar.
[Music]
I hate it, but I love it.
Hate it.
Just hate what it means.
[Music]
What does it mean?
[Music]
Only if you make war on war will you overcome.
you overcome it.
I love you.
I love you.
You're crazy surfing in the middle of the winter.
I'm going out again.
Again.
Maybe I'll catch an eight footer.
I'll write it, Your Honor.
Your Honor. Say, Nara.
Remember me?
There were some boobies you could sort of see through that lady's long hair f During that clip, so that's a thank you movie.
Thank you, movie.
At the end of the clip a tire blows out, so he has to stop to change it, and the surrealism of this is cut away from to a large gathering of people and the first time.
In a town with a reporter flappin' them jaws, so dialogue that's our fifteenth.
Here we are at point zero where the Kowalski saga began, and to be interviewed by KLZ TV News is the owner of the agency, Mr. Holly Macus, and one of the attendants, Essential.
Sandy McKees. Sandy, uh, you knew this man best. What do you think of Walski? Oh, he's a great driver. What? What'd you say? I said he's a great driver. Great driver. We all knew that. We won't find a driver like him on the road. But as a professional driver, he never really made the grade, did he?
Know why? He never really wanted to.
So far as I'm concerned.
as I'm concerned he was number one.
He is number one.
[Silence]
Oh, let the guy alone. He never done any harm. This is Bob Homer, KLZ TV News, Denver. Super Soul needs no introduction as our number one disc jockey. But he's certainly on his way to becoming a national celebrity in his own right, as the invisible guide of
Guide of the wealth.
Powalski.
Leading the blind.
As you all remember, Kowalski was involved in the cross-country chase starting in Denver, Colorado.
Yeah.
Don't move, strangers. Don't move.
Just don't move.
But I'll get him for you.
Thank you.
Stick your pretty little head.
Right through that, baby.
That's it.
Now we got him.
Thank you.
Now we'll get our basket over here.
Look at that livin wig on the air, ain't that a beauty?
Well. Now we'll get him in here.
Thank you, Fran. That's got him.
Thank you.
How many do you have in there?
What six rattlers?
Two sideliners?
Now we've got one very precious diamond back.
Try it on.
Trade'em for coffee, sugar, chewing tobacco, salt, flour, and beans. Lots of beans, son. Live out here.
Look, I'm lost and I need your help.
Attention, Kowalski.
I've got an important message for you.
Meu.
Kowalski, are you listening?
Now dig this, coppers from the highway patrol are combin' the desert huntin' for you.
Listen carefully.
बलीवर नाट
They trying to help you. They really are.
Dig it? That depends, son.
What? You said you needed my help, so that depends on your helping me first.
Helping me to get to where it was that You get where it was that I was headed for.
One of them is a Is a coming on now.
Can't see a damn thing out there.
Yeah.
I bet you can't even see my truck neither, and that's Just over there.
Let's get the hell out of here. No, no, that ain't any way to do it. That's no... That's no way to get the hell out.
No, the best way to my knowledge to get away is to root right in where you are. Just root right in.
You just went over, yeah?
But stay put.
Thank you.
You must have found my old truck. He's circling it, yeah. It's a trap.
That's a darling.
Probably been there since the depression.
He's heading on. Okay. Let's straight ahead.
Name Kowowski.

Is that? Faith healers.
Well, yeah.
Now you, you're coming across here, you just wait for me right here in his automobile!
Them healers don't like strangers much, and especially that deacon, Jesse Hobbit. He's a he's a mean one. Yeah, don't forget about the man.
What about the gas? Oh, I took it from the gas.
Who's that man over there?
Well, just like I was telling you, my, my truck shot is shakin' heavy-
getting kind of younger now.
younger now and
Who is that man? It's a friend.
My friend there.
How do you know?
Ain't that a pretty one though? Ain't that real pretty?
Yeah. I told you these meetings are private.
Why did you bring a stranger here?
Mr. Holbrook.
I didn't bring him, he brought me over. Why?
Okay.
He needs some gas
Thank you.
And take him out of here.
Ain't you gonna give me my coffee and and sugar and all this?
Obrigado.
Thank you.
And all the stuff that you promised me?
Let's go girls.
Thank you.
Don't need the sacks anymore.
Oh, we got the music.
Thank you.

And I never lose your shadow.
Well then when you see very tall segreto cactuses, don't lose them neither, because that's the L'Orayel belt.
The Sogrero and a Creoso tree will take you right back onto the trail of the earth.
So that then that's the road.
That's the road, yeah.
You're beginning to get the fundamentals of it, son. Maybe. Well, thanks, Pa.
Thanks for everything.
You're very welcome.
Hope I'll be seeing you again.

No the end of that longer clip takes us well over the two thirds mark of the film.
Holy shit.
Yeah. Shit, man. It just does not let up. Like even if it
Even if it's a good idea.
Basically he has to get a flat tire just so the audience can go
Yeah.
Yeah.
Hell, this guy this guy's wearing me out. I'm tired after this movie.
Like I'm with him up until he just all of a sudden drives off into the desert and I'm like, Oh my god, no, he really is just trying to die. Like he's just trying to die. That's it. He's running until he dies.
He's sick of you people.
What do you mean, you people?
That's what I said.
In all seriousness though, uh you you can tell like he is running from himself, he's running from his memories, he's running from his past and it's full of pain. I don't know exactly when it gets revealed, but it's really heavily implied in that flashback that that girl did drown from s
from surfing because the way she says, you know, remember me fondly or whatever. And then immediately after it cuts out of that and he starts driving like a maniac again, you know he's trying to drown out that feeling. So it's him he lost her in some way. But it's heavily
Yeah, yeah.
With the board coming in by itself that she drowned.
Yeah.
And then you're like, fuck, man, this guy's this guy's had nothing but tragedy in his life. Yeah.
Yeah. And then somewhere later on someone actually says it or there's a clip of a newspaper where it says that girl drowned, uh, I think in that collage that we'll see later on or something like that. I don't remember. But it's pretty
Pretty heavily hinted at in here. They just wanted to drive it home later because, you know, the only way subtlety works is if you hit them over the head with it.
Yeah, I mean, that's movies.
Holy fuck though. The first two thirds of the film, like I said, doesn't even give you a break. He has to get a flat before we can catch our breath. It's it's incredible. Yeah.
Yeah, it's amazing. It's awesome.
Great.
All the shots are so well done. This is how you fucking car chase movie.
This is how definitely how you car chased.
Ha ha ha.
No this.
It's podcasting.
Why don't we do the run to the end for the movie then?
Let's hit it.
All right, so the run to the end starts with a shot of Clevon Little cuddling the goodest of boys, who lends his sight to his owner, looking deep in thought before the dialogue kicks in with our sixteen.
Ready now.
At this tell me when.
Hell me win.
Yeah, I'm ready, but he's not ready yet.
Forget it, forget it. I'll tell you when I'm ready.
[Silence]
Thank you.
Push it.
There's a car coming.
Thank you.
Okay. What really?
Yes, thank you. You're very kind.
You're welcome.
But could you please tell us in which direction you're headed? I'm going to Frisco. Oh well that's
Well that's perfect.
Perfect, thank you.
Is something wrong?
Wrong.
No, why should there be?
Well you're so silent.
Silent.
And moody.
Maybe it's just part of my nature.
Why are you laughing?
I'm not laughing. Yes, you are.
Yes you are.
Way down deep inside.
It's because you think we're
This is their cup.
Stick up.
Stick up.
Why are you laughing, Mary?
Mary.
Well tell me.
Tell me!
It hurts! Oh my god!
Amen.
[Silence]
After he ejects the robbers from his car, we cut back and forth between him driving and the DJ sensing him.
Before we thankfully get some more dialogue so I don't have to write anymore for our seventeenth clip.
Hey Brother K. Hi. Welcome back.
How you feeling?
Oh I bet you're tired, I bet you're tired.
Well you wanna know what's happening?
Yeah, what's happening?
But Big Brother's not so much watching as listening in as you well might have gathered by now. But what you probably don't know is that uh they found these two.
Gentlemen on the road, they was pretty badly battered up.
Yeah.
It must have had an accident or something like that.
But some smart ass was putting the pressure on them to charge you with some ugly, nasty crime.
let us say assault and battery.
But the two gents in question Refuse to comply.
Or as my older ego might put it.
Now listen to this.
Some party or parties are busily preparing a little welcome committee in the sunshine state.
and the main doors and even some side doors.
are heavily embellished with garlands and fuzzy frills.
You know what I mean?
Hang on now, brother. Hang on.
Everybody clear the streets.
You won't get hurt.
Hey!
है लागा
I'M GONNA SHOT YOUR PICK-
Altyazı M.K.
Let's get em!
Had to edit out some ps fucking slurs in that one.
Yeah, right. No shit.
Yeah, the last couple of clips I had to edit out some slurs, but I did my best, folks.
I try not to miss any of'em.
Yeah.
All right. So this leads to a lynching sequence because we were talking about the slurs that is fucking awful in content and not execution. It's well shot and well depicted. It's just so well depicted it makes my stomach fucking churn. Yeah.
Yeah. It's gross. Fuck.
The radio goes silent in Kowalski's car, and he immediately seems to be like Samson post-haircut now, as his hand jerks to the dial. And then this biker following him comes on up for a convo into the window and
And are
[Silence]
Back to that biker dude's house, and there is a lady out there riding a bike naked, so thank you, movie.
Movie. Thank you, movie.
They cut back to the biker, getting the speed that was requested in that last clip in our next clip.
Thanks.
You want more water? That's okay.
[Silence]
We'll take what you need.
Nice.
All right.
Person to person call for Kowalski.
Person to person call for Kowalski.
Can you hear me Kowalski?
This is to inform you of the latest developments.
Correction to my last delivery.
All the main doors are closed except one.
This one opens to Sonora.
Oh fire up man.
out man.
Thank you.
That's just a couple of minutes up the road.
You're going to make it go up.
Kowalski.
Amen. Yeah. Last chance.
Or some weezers around there.
Are you familiar with his Jack's voice? All new super.
Super soft.
Yeah. I said freeways.
If any of the super soul spot our hero out there on his way. Maybe he's got a cold or something, but that's his voice, all right.
Help him. Cheer him on and call us and let us know where he is so that I can personally deliver your message of goodwill to our soul.
Come here!
Are you listening, King? Come on!
We're gonna help you. Take care.
All of us.
Yeah, yeah. So friends.
Call me.
Super soul right here at Kyle.
far west. Absolutely. Right here in beautiful uptight downtown Oakfield.
Brother Key. Just keep the faith in us, baby.
And we'll lead you right on.
to glory.
Yeah, it sounds a little different.
He sounds kind of uh stiff or Square.
He sounds a little mechanical.
You sense a trap, man?
Yeah. We wait till I get back.
Where you going?
Just wait here.
You gonna stay with us?
No, I don't think so.
Is there something I can do for you?
I like that.
Like anything you want.
No, I can't think of anything.
You don't fancy me.
Oh yeah, yeah, very much.
Then why don't we have some fun?
Thanks.
Thanks just to say.
Isn't there something you
Something you'd like?
Yeah.
Oh, okay, I'll roll you one. No, no, no, no. Oh, that's great one.
Anyone.
Here. Keep the pack.
Thanks.
You know, you haven't changed much. Mm-hmm.
I said you haven't changed much.
Here. That was a long time ago.
I know.
I pasted it up when it first came out.
When I cut it out.
Yeah, was a lala shooting jag raps, eh?
[Silence]
You're right, man.
More cops than I ever seen, man.
You were sold out! What the hell is that for? That's your pig pass!
[Silence]
Well I've seen it, I've treated.
[Silence]
Clear the road!
[Silence]
We don't call them mothers of speed thieves around here, but we're gonna do what you haven't been able to do.
Merci.
We're gonna stop him for
Stopping for good.
Yes, we've been previously informed of all that.
Thank you about it.
Well you don't need me anymore.
You're in California.
İzlediğiniz için teşekkür ederim.
You bet your ass, baby.
Take care, Kowalski.
[Silence]
I knew you wouldn't make it.
What's happening? You're happening, man. You're all over the front page.
Here's the headline.
X-race driver involved in massive police chase.
Yeah.
Yeah, they even printed Pulvera's store.
Plus a picture.
I'll put you out there driving like a wild man It's not your kind.
What you trying to prove, man? Are you high or what?
You still in?
Just tell Sandy not to worry. I'm okay and that that car is gonna be delivered Monday.
Right on time.
Your gas, man.
Now listen it's But it's double the bet next time around, huh?
Hey man, don't do no sell this shit out there, ok? Take care of yourself.
Take care of yourself. Okay, I'll see you amigo.
Yeah, so that lady pretty much offered herself to him and he just he wasn't into it.
No, he was like Ah man, I'm all right.
Yeah, he's just trying to run from himself and he's tired of feeling and if she sleeps with him, he'll start feeling things and he doesn't want that.
Yeah, nope no mo no feelings, man. We're not into feelings, all right?
Just speed. All sorts of speed. That's all we need.
And you notice how he doesn't take very much because he just needs enough to keep him going until he eventually dies.
Yes. Yeah. And then he can die and everything's fine.
All right.
All right, so
The during the clip we actually see that it's like um California Saturday late at night and that heading popped up during the clip. At the end we see Clevan Little being helped back to his station and And guarded by a community as he starts his shift on the air in our twentieth clip.
Ten seconds, Super.
[Silence]
Wheel, and some of evil.
All peace loving Christians getting ready to go to church.
Go to church this
This morning
Here I am.
I am yours truly, yeah. Super soul, bannering this stream of unconsciousness and peddling his labels for the sake of good news.
Good music to all
But I'm here on Thursday for the first time in my life. And for the first time, this car radio station began.
Not only the DJ.
DJ and
and to do my own thing but to tell you.
Beginning.
[Silence]
And today, in a beautiful gesture made by beautiful people, beautiful downtown Goldfield.
This radio station was named Kowalski.
In honor of the last American hero.
Speed means freedom of the soul.
The question is not when he's gonna stop.
But who is gonna stop him?
Even Clevon Little's character at this point has kind of given up on him, Jesus.
Yeah. No one's stopping him.
It's just time to have some fun.
This leads to a sequence of what looks like the setup of the beginning of the movie with that fuck around and find out barricade.
And then the film cuts from that montage to our final clip. Hello.
Hello, Kowalski. Gowalski. Please listen, Gowalski.
But it's useless.
Cut it off.
After that mini-clip, we see Kowalski gunning it, pulling off his sunglasses, and speeding his way at the roadblock.
The DJ shouts out don't and we cut back to him barreling at the roadblock and then the crowd of spectators and then to the car vaporizing before our very eyes in a fiery explosion.
As the bulldozers do not even fucking move when it slams into it, folds up and explodes.
Yeah.
Like I mean, what a fine car just to see it die.
Yeah.
Yeah. The car explodes a second time just really twisting the fucking knife.
As we see a sequence of folks all staring in shock And the firemen move in to put it out.
The cleanup and the sadness sets in in a montage as we finally roll those fucking credits.
Se você é o só This show still fucking sucks!
Jesus fucking Christ, what a downer of a fucking ending, but man that film will fucking stick with you and make you long to be however that guy was free even though it was killed.
Yeah. He was free and he died free.
Yeah. He's just free. Yeah.
Yeah. He had no concern or care about what was that going to do to anything else. He was free at that point.
No responsibilities, no nothing. Just
Yes. Nothing to worry about.
About freedom.
Yeah.
I mean don't be wrong.
I love my life.
For the most part,'cause I've got a I've I've got a good wife, good marriage, a good son, friends, family. Don't me wrong, I do like my life.
But there is something that everyone can find romantic about that kind of freedom.
Yeah, he chose when he was gonna go rather than submit to anything, even though they didn't have anything on him really. All they were trying to do was just stop him because it was getting way too much attention what he was doing. Yeah.
'Cause and again, he doesn't actually do anything that isn't above a misdemeanor, so like states really have no reason to extradite him because there's no federal interstate crime. And really the misdemeanors are just misdemeanors, so there's nothing to really
do about it anyway. And then it finally starts building up and gets worse and worse. And then when he's finally like hiding in the desert.
I feel like this film has a a sort of supernatural bent to it, almost like he's already in purgatory, and this is just him repeating purg purgatory over and over again.
I don't know if that's purgatory, because he seems like he's having a pretty good time.
Yeah, but purgatory doesn't have to be suffering. It's just where you go before you go.
You go to the full on act.
Well then.
Well then he's living purgatory up to its fucking fullest.
Yeah. If it if it is purgatory, this is how you fucking purgatory, baby.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. This is how you purgatory motherfuckers. You just you fucking go hard.
And if this is a loop where he just keeps going harder and harder until his soul finally gives up, it feels like he's got way too much fucking burn in him to get
Yeah, no, yeah, that that soul ain't going anywhere any time soon. Yeah.
Yeah, it's too busy.
I'm telling you right now.
You live the kind of purgatory where God looks at it and goes, Whew, I don't know. That guy's crazy.
Good guy.
He's coming in hot.
He's gonna come in hot. Well wait, are you sending him to hell? No, man, they they don't have what it takes to get'em. We're gonna have to take'em here. It's just it's gonna be hot though.
Just start building the racetracks, he'll be fine.
Yeah. Hell. I'm just telling you, man. He already busted out of hell. He drove fast.
Too bad.
Too fast.
Yeah. Holy fuck, it's crazy. It it was
Satan doesn't even have a car that goes that fast.
Ha ha ha.
Ha ha ha.
Oh man, I feel like there's like some kind of gold plated fiddle challenge in that.
I know, right? And you know what though? If it if it happened.
And it's like I wanna the devil's like I wanna race for the uh for the earth.
I I want this guy. This is the guy. I'm like, no, that's fine. You but you get him. This is who you ra you're racing against. Welcome to hell.
[Silence]
You're writing fanfiction about Vanishing Point. That means you must have liked to be.
I did. I liked it a lot. Of course I liked it. It was rocking.
I am thoroughly pleased that we've decided to do trucker and car chase movies already'cause we're just in the pre nineteen eighties car chase movies now and just the first two weeks have been a pure joy.
No, it's just been just fantastic.
Yeah. The escapism that we totally needed from this scorched earth that we're suffering.
I know. Good God Almighty.
Well, why don't we go ahead and close out the fucking show? I think I'm good. How about you?
I'm good.
All right, so we're gonna play that outdated show housekeeping'cause we record uh two episodes a week and uh well I just haven't fixed it yet. So maybe I will eventually.
And then we'll have the music that will be created right before I finish the edit, and hopefully it will at least follow something having to do with the plot or vanishing point when we come back and then we'll close out this fucking show.
